When the Goverment of Canada legalized Cannabis in October 2018, it gave each province the ability to create their own framework for distribution and sales. In turn, Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Newfoundland and Labrador gave municipalities the ability to set their own rules of where these Cannabis Retail stores could operate. Many provinces and municipalities created buffer or exclusion zones around schools, hospitals, parks, community centres, and other cannabis retailers.
